With the release of the new teaser image on, I can't help but notice what appears to be references to the A Nightmare on Elm Street series. I'd like to point out that I've only seen the original NMOES so all my information about the sequels comes from reviews so forgive me if I get anything wrong or miss something.

  • The name. Freddy is the lead character/antagonist of both series. I don't necessarily think Fazbear is named after Krueger, but rather it was a coincidence that Scott decided to have some fun with.
  • The mini Freddy heads. This is actually what made me think of NMOES in the first place. In Dream Warriors, we learn that Freddy K. keeps the souls of everyone he's murdered in his chest. Just Google "Freddy Krueger Chest" to see. I think this one is just an out and out reference and won't have any bearing on whatever's coming on 10.30.15, though I've been wrong before.
  • The Final Chapter/Nightmare. In the teaser we can clearly read "The Final Chapter," however when the image is edited we can also see the word "NIGHTMARE" written over the bottom of the image.[1] This one is pretty interesting because it relates to NMOES twofold, though in a roundabout sort of way. The Final Nightmare is the subtitle given to the 6th movie in the NMOES series and was supposed to be that last one, as the name suggest. However another sequel and a crossover were made after that.[2] Speaking of the crossover, another horror icon appeared along side Freddy K. as an antagonist/foe in it. Jason Voorhees, of Friday the 13th fame, faces off with Freddy K. in Freddy VS Jason. The 4th movie in the Friday the 13th series is subtitled The Final Chapter! (Of course they ended up making six more movies after that but, whatever.)
  • Fingers maybe? Okay, this one is stretching a bit, but in the teaser we can see Freddy F.'s[3] fingers tapper down to a very fine point and the ends look kind of... stab-y for lack of a better word. Freddy K. is, of course, famous for his deadly claw glove. Kind of out there and at this point I might just be looking for references, but I thought I'd mention it.
  • Hats! I about 1000% sure that both characters having a signature hat is just a coincidence. I just find it interesting.

So, yeah! This was comparison of the Five Night's a Freddy's teaser image and the A Nightmare on Elm Street series. If you think I'm way off-base, totally agree with me, or have spotted any other references let me know!

[1] We can actually see NIGHTMARE before editing, but it's harder to read.

[2]There was also a remake, but it doesn't really count.

[3]I'm assuming that's Freddy F. or at least some form of him.
